COLORFUL | DIVERSE | ADVENTURE

We only stayed in Lima for about ten days, but I found it to be such a cool city. Other than the weather, which is apparently cloudy and damp for the majority of the year, the food was good, the view from our apartment was great and the people were beyond welcoming. When the sun is shining, the Miraflores neighborhood where we stayed would be like a South American version of Venice Beach or Santa Monica in California. After Lima, we were fortunate enough to visit Peru's main tourist attraction, Machu Picchu. It was one of the most incredible things I have ever seen with my own eyes and well worth the effort to get there. We hiked the Salkantay Trek over four days (over 50 miles and thousands of miles of elevation), starting from Cusco and ending up in Aguas Calientes. Both of those cities were unique in their own right despite being magnets for tourists. However, perhaps because everyone there has adventure in mind, the tourists were less obnoxious than you might find in other places. For anyone who has had Machu Picchu on their bucket list or simply enjoys the outdoors,  just book it! You won't be sorry you did.
